· BESARS ESL – English Language Arts: Attended a series of workshops designed to increase ELLs’ understanding of English-language literature, bridging cultural differences, and to best prepare ESL students for the English Regents.

· BESARS ESL – Math: Attended a series of workshops tailored to ESL and math teachers, focusing on better understanding language and mathematics impediments of ELL students, and on overcoming teaching difficulties..

PROFESSIONAL TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

BORICUA COLLEGE, NEW YORK, NY.
Professor of American History and of Political Science, 2000-2001

· Teaching two classes in American History, from the discovery of America through the Civil War.

· Teaching a class in Political Science, dealing with federalism, the legal system, and various governmental processes.

· Was able to take on a double class of American History from another professor, and conduct two simultaneous sessions.

· Student body at Boricua consists of minority and immigrant students, with an average age of 36. For nearly all students, these classes were cases of first impression and exposure to both American history and to political science and theory.

AUGUST MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL, JAMAICA, NY.
Teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL), 2000-2001

· Teaching five classes of ESL students, from Beginner to Advanced, with one additional Reading class.

· Hold morning pre-school ESL tutoring sessions, as well as after-school BESAR ELA-ESL English Regents tutoring sessions.

· Founding member of the Fundraising and Grant Writing Committee. In process of starting a Law Club for next year.

· Administered LAB test to a group of forty students.

· Supervised numerous trips to various New York museums and the Bronx Zoo, as well as several guest speakers.

· Student body at August Martin ESL class consists of exclusively minority and immigrant students, ranging from Caribbean to African, from Arabian to Latin American, and from Asian to native-born American students designated as part of the Special Education program.

PRINCETON REVIEW SAT PREPARATION CLASS, HUNTINGTON, NY.
S.A.T. Preparation Class Instructor, 1992, 1993

· Supervised and instructed standardized examination preparation classes.

· Participated in various youth recruitment and community public relations for the program.

CERTIFICATION:

· Passed all exams requisite for certification, licensing, and bilingual extension: LAST, ATS-W, ELPA-C, TLPA for Russian, CST in ESL, and the Bilingual Pre-Employment Russian Written and Russian Verbal Exams.

· Completed the Child Abuse Identification & Reporting Class and Workshop in School Violence Prevention & Intervention.

· Completed forty of sixty New Teacher hours, as well as all ESL and Special Education Professional Development hours.
